An Luna She?

For the curious -- and I know I'm often curious about blog names and site names and names in general (names are important, especially when chosen) -- I decided I'd include a page about what, exactly, An Luna She means.

It's a bastardization of four languages, and a bit of a pun. An is Irish Gaelic for The. At the time of coming up with the name I was studying Irish, and although I don't any long because of time, and life, and other things, I still very much love Irish history and folklore. Luna is Latin, the language I took in high school, and means moon. She is English, and is a reference to my name, Elle, which is French for she. In some odd, bastardized way the name means "The Moon Girl".

So why The Moon Girl? Because I like the moon. Because I like horror movies and everything terrible or wonderful happens on the full or new moons. Because I was goth in high school. Because my zodiac sign is Cancer, which is led by the moon. Because I don't believe in the zodiac, but I think it's fun to think about. Because in Norse lore Skoll and Hati are the names of the wolves who chase the sun and moon and I'd rather chase the moon, even though I think Skoll has the better name. Because Artemis is the goddess of bows and arrows, of dogs and the moon. Because the moon controls the tides, and the tides are part of the ocean.

And that's that.
